Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products - Bowling Green, KY July 12, 2024 Case Study: Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products – July 2024 Location: Bowling Green, KY Problem Statement: Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products (KAAP) is part of the Kobe Steel Group, which is known internationally by the KOBELCO brand. Jimmy Burton of Kobe reached out to Safety Rail Source® in May of 2023 to discuss OSHA rooftop fall protection for two buildings in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Jimmy also wanted to discuss mounting railing on a portion of corrugated metal roof. Problem Resolution: Joshua Caroll, project engineer for Kobe, provided SRS with satellite images and on-site measurements with his suggestions for placement of safety railings to satisfy OSHA standards. In collaboration with Chad Vanning of Safety Rail Source®, a railing layout was agreed on. The design included 1,292 LF of NextGen 3000 Universal Guardrail™ combined with two shorter runs of NextGen Continuous Railing™ to protect the corrugated roof. In January of 2024, discussion about the project with KAAP managers turned to installation. After considering several options, it was agreed that KAAP would use their on-site mechanics to complete the job, using the installation instructions provided by SRS. In April 2024, the EHS team at KAAP led by the Project Engineer, Joshua Carroll and Jesse the installer, met with Hal Swindell of SRS for instruction on assembly and proper installation of the railing systems. Installation began in June of 2024 and was completed shortly thereafter. At the conclusion of the project, Joshua provided photos and videos of work performed in order for SRS to certify proper installation.
