Birdville ISD, Haltom City, TX July 8, 2025 Case Study: Birdville ISD - June 2025 Location: Haltom City, TX Problem Statement: Birdville Independent School District, comprised of over 30 school campuses, is located near Fort Worth, Texas. In February of 2025, a representative contacted Safety Rail Source® regarding a need to secure their roof hatches from unauthorized entry. Beginning May 31, 2023, the state of Texas requires all schools keep roof access openings closed, latched and locked when not in use. Under rule 19 TAC § 61.1031 of the Texas Administrative Code — rimmed hatches, skylights, ladder doors, etc. left unsecured can lead to unauthorized access or fall hazards. Problem Resolution: SRS proposed installing the Lift & Lock Roof Hatch Opener, which enables the roof hatch to be opened, closed, and locked from the base of the ladder. The Lift & Lock is custom made for each unique ladder and roof hatch design, so a simple measurement form is all that is required to ensure proper fit. Standard systems cover up to a 19’ climb with no obstructions. In April of 2025, the team at Birdville ISD returned the measurement form for the first Lift & Lock. Within one business day, SRS responded with pricing. Upon approval, the product was shipped within 7 business days. SRS worked with Patrick Rogers from Belmont Safety to coordinate installation. Patrick successfully installed this first unit and provided detailed instructions for the Birdville ISD team to complete future installations. In addition, during the site visit, several other roof hatches were also inspected and measured for future installations of the Lift & Lock Roof Hatch Opener. The team at Birdville ISD was very pleased with the ability to provide added safety and security to their roof access and meet the requirements of the new Texas codes.
