Case Study: Centimark and Safety Rail Source at Danone North America, July 2020

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Problem Statement: Danone S.A., a multinational food-products corporation headquartered in Paris, France contacted Safety Rail Source to provide rooftop fall protection for its plant in Salt Lake City.

The challenge was to bring their rooftops into compliance with OSHA Code 1910.28(b)(13), that states “when work is performed less than 6 feet from the roof edge, the employer must ensure each employee is protected from falling… through any hole (including skylights) that is 4 feet or more above a lower level”.

Problem Resolution: Safety Rail Source, in partnership with Dustin Kressen and Dustin Bake of Centimark, surveyed multiple roofs for Danone, North America and identified all areas where rooftop railing is required. The team developed a comprehensive fall protection program that included 1,993 linear feet of NextGen 3000 Universal Guardrail, and 407 linear feet of Standing Seam Roof Railing. The railing was finished with TS-22 coating in Danone Blue. Railing bases were coated in safety yellow. The biggest challenge was installing railing on narrow roofs with piping, condensers and other obstructions. The installation was completed efficiently and quickly by Centimark in less than the projected time.
