Cal/OSHA Code 1621: "Unless otherwise protected, railings as set forth in Section 1620 shall be provided along all unprotected and open sides."
Unprotected Personnel at Heights
OSHA Code 1910.140(d)(2(ii)): "Personal fall arrest systems must be rigged such that an employee cannot free fall more than 6 feet (1.8 m) or contact a lower level."
Unprotected Roof Edges
OSHA Code 1910.28(b)(13): “When work is performed less than 6 feet (1.8 m) from the roof edge, the employer must ensure each employee is protected from falling."

OSHA Code 1910.28(b)(3)(i): "Each employee must be protected from falling through any hole (including skylights) that is 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level."
