Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Model SRS meet OSHA and Cal-OSHA requirements?

Yes. The NextGen Skylight Safety-Screen™ is designed and tested to comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.28(b)(3)(i) and Cal/OSHA 8 CCR §3212. Testing performed by Kee Safety on September 4, 2019, demonstrated that a .312” galvanized carbon wire screen supported a 622 lb. factored load applied at the front end and center without failure, exceeding Cal-OSHA's 400 lb. force requirement.

How does the Model SRS transfer fall impact?

The heavy metal wire grid is specifically sized to rest on the roof surface rather than hovering over it. While it is screwed into the skylight frame to stay secure, any heavy impact on the top of the screen transfers the force directly down into the solid roof structure, bypassing the skylight glass or acrylic completely.

How long does installation of the Model SRS take?

Because the design is lightweight and straightforward, it takes one worker approximately 10 minutes to install a standard screen once all materials and tools are staged on the roof.

Do I need roof pads for the safety-screen?

Depending on your roof manufacturer's warranty and specifications, protective pads may be required where the screen's metal corners meet the roof membrane. These pads are entirely optional but can be provided by Safety Rail Source at an additional cost to ensure roof longevity.

What is the difference between the STS and SRS models?

Both are designed for domed skylights. The STS clamps directly to the skylight curb using a non-penetrating compression system, while the SRS rests on the roof and attaches to the skylight frame.
